So as I'm sitting here watching football on a Sunday morning, as I do every Sunday morning, I start to think about which players are the most underrated. Everybody in America knows about the star quarterbacks and stud recievers, but I'm talking about the best football players that people simply don't give enough respect. I also decided to go through a list of the most OVER rated players in the NFL and why they get too much love.
MOST UNDERRATED
10. Thomas Jones - RB NYJ. I never thought in my life I'd put a New York guy on an underrated list, but TJ is simply one of the most consistent players in the league. But this guy has over 10,000 yards from scrimmage in his career and is on his way to his fifth consecutive 1000 yard rushing season. No one gives him enough love for simply moving the chains.
9. Miles Austin - WR DAL. Damn, I put a Cowboy on my list, kinda makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit. But in all honesty, this guy is a number one receiver, he leads the league in yards per catch, and sweet mother of god, he's not a diva. T whO?
8. Zach Miller - TE OAK. There's a reason they call it the black hole in Oakland. The main reason is because if you go there, people have no idea if you're good or not, and Miller is good. He has a quarterback that couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat, and if he had even an average quarterback, he'd probably have about 70 catches a season. When Miller leaves Oaktown, he could have 1000 yard seasons.
7. Patrick Willis - SF MLB. Quick name the best linebacker in the NFL. Ray Lewis? Nope sorry. Brian Urlacher? Well he's hurt dumbass, but no. How about Patrick Willis, not even close. This guy in 40 career games has over 400 tackles. He's a beast, he can cover, he can rush the passer and he hits you like a truck. He's the best linebacker in the NFL, and don't even try to argue that with me.
6. Jonathon Joseph - CIN CB. It's hard to put a former first round pick on an underrated list, but htis guy pretty much shuts you down. He controls one side of the field and is almost always on an island which allows those safeties to play consistently in the box, it was between J Jo and his partner in crime Leon Hall.
5. Nick Mangold - NYJ C. D'Brick and Faneca get a lot of love, but Mangold is the center and he is one of the best in the league. There's a reason a team with little passing game leads the league in rushing, even though they know it's coming, and this guy is a HUGE reason why. Two NY guys on my list, ugh.
4. Jeff Saturday - IND C. Back to back centers, but this guy, not Peyton Manning was the MVP of their superbowl, just ask Peyton. Best offensive line in terms of pass blocking every single season, and the reason is this guy and his "cerebral" protections. Saturday is the man.
3. Steven Jackson - STL RB. This guy is one of the three best running backs in the NFL, but nobody gives him enough love because his team sucks, like really bad, like I'm thinkin Florida or Bama would give STL a pretty good run. Actually without Jackson, STL probably wouldn't even make a BCS game.
2. Nnamdi Asomugha - OAK CB. He's starting to get more love, but not enough. The reason he doesn't intercept balls is because qb's don't throw at him.... ever. Like never ever. Once a game his side of the field gets thrown at. ONCE A GAME. How the hell is Oakland so bad when the other ten guys on the field only have to cover one side of the field, ohhh yeah that's right. it's cuz they suck.
1. Wes Welker - NE WR. Without Welker the Pats offense simply doesn't go. When you look at him all the passes are in essense just long handoffs. He's as automatic as it gets in the NFL and even NFL players voted him the most underrated. One of the ten best recievers in the League and is absolutely perfect for the Pats prolific offense.
TEN MOST OVERRATED PLAYERS
10. Terrell Owens BUF WR. Recievers are paid to do one thing, catch the football. And TO, well he doesn't catch it. Yeah his career numbers are good, really good actually, but now this guy isn't fast enough to get open, and when he does get open and get him the ball, he can't catch it. TO shut up man.
9. Eli Manning NYG QB. Yeah he won a super bowl so maybe I should get off his case, but I'm not going to. Without an insane out of control off the helmet catch by someone who got cut later, he wouldn't have won that. Manning has probably the leagues best all around offensive line, and one of the great running games in the league. He also has a very very good defense. He just really doesn't do a whole lot for me, and to be honest I doubt he'll win another championship.
8. Carson Palmer CIN QB. Why does everyone think this guy is so good? He's really not that good, he doesn't have a ring, his team generally has a losing record. He has Esteban Ochocinco, naw I can't do it, Chad Johnson I mean, and had TJ Houshamazilly.. championship. Yet, no ring and went to the ProBowl for his numbers, not his ability. I just don't see the appeal, he's average.
7. Ray Lewis BAL MLB. He definitely hits people like a truck, but he doesn't make as many tackles as people think, he does however get a ton of assisted tackles by finishing off plays by Haloti Ngata, who by the way should probably be on the above list. Lewis used to be the best in the NFL, but there are quite a few linebackers I'd take over him now.
6. Antonio Gates SD TE. He was one of the best pass catchers in the NFL for a long time, not not as much, I've watched him drop quite a few catchable balls this season, and his blocking is ummm kinda like my girlfriend when she punches me, it's more of a "can't believe i'm dating this douche" open handed slap.
5. Flozell Adams DAL T. For the love of all things holy if you have one more freaking fall start penalty I'm gonna kick you in the balls, like hard. Plus you're really not that good of a pass blocker and your run blocking while definitely okay, isn't phenomenal, but everyone thinks you're good. You have the most penalties in the NFL over the past two seasons, and it's not...even...close.
4. Adrian Peterson MIN RB. Okay okay okay stop freaking out and calling me an idiot. Yes he's probably one of the biggest running threats in the league, wait I take that back, he IS the biggest running threat in the league. But this guy relies on big plays for his average, he isn't the best 5-6 yard consistent rusher in the league, at all. His median yards per rush would be probably in the 15-20 range for running backs. He isn't a good pass catcher, at all, and he isn't a blocking back. Plus on top of all of that, he fumbles more than anyone else since he's been in the league. He'll cost that team a couple of wins by putting the ball on the ground. Plus that offensive line is incredible.
3. Matt Cassel KC QB. It was the system. That's why he got paid. It actually really sucks for those qb's who are actually good. He'll be KC's biggest waste of money probably in franchise history.
2. Jay Cutler CHI QB. What did he do in his career to get him all the money and props? Absolutely nothing. This guy simply isn't that good, he makes bad decisions but he has a huge arm. His completion percentage would be right up there with the best in the league, if you can count his completions to linebackers, db's and hell even a couple d-linemen have made catches. There's a reason he's not very good, it's because his decision making is suspect at best, no no.. it's just bad. This decision is going to haunt Chicago for YEARS.
1. Tony Romo DAL QB. He's won as many playoff games as you and I have. ZERO. Way too much talent on that roster to not win more games. He hasn't done really much of anything, except occassionally lose games tha tthey should win. I put him at about 14-17 in the NFL as far as qb rankings. But everyone loves him... do something positive Tony and you might not be on this list next year.
