Guys I love in the 2014 draft
These are guys that I would love to have on my team if I
were an NFL GM. This isn’t saying these are the best players in the draft, or
that they are first rounders, etc. These guys are simply great football players
who probably aren’t valued as high by evaluators as they are valued by myself.
1. Lamarcus Joyner, DB Florida State
Joyner is one of the most fun players I’ve ever evaluated.
The kid plays extremely hard, and while he’s undersized he makes huge plays
during big moments. He could have a Tyrann Mathieu type impact while showing
high character and football IQ.
2. Teddy Bridgewater, QB Louisville
Bridgewater looked like a monster in college and now that
his pro-day was bad he drops potentially to the second round? I simply couldn’t
care less how he throws the football against air, what I care about his how he
dissects defenses. A stud, who if you run a west coast offense, could end up
being an All-Pro.
3. Dri Archer, ATH Kent State
Give me the most explosive player in the draft every time. I
have a first round above 90 grade on Archer despite him being 5’ 7.5 and
weighing around a buck seventy. He might be the fastest player in the league
and shows wonderful ability in the slot, returning the football, and shows good
balance and vision as a tailback.
4. Jimmy Garoppolo, QB Eastern Illinois
Garoppollo has tremendous feet and a quick release. He shows
excellent pocket mobility and has a very high football IQ. While others think
he may drop to the third or fourth round I have a 90 grade on the EIU prospect
and would have zero issues with him going in round one.
5. Marcus Martin, C USC
This kid should go in the first round. In Vegas the second
most important position after only the quarterback is the center. Martin could
be a Pro-Bowl caliber center and is probably the best center prospect since
Alex Mack.
6. David Yankey, OL Stanford
Some have Yankey as a third or fourth round pick but I
wouldn’t even be upset if Miami took him all the way at number 19. He has
tremendous power and on trap blocks he’s the best run blocker in this draft. He
could play tackle or guard and as a guard is probably the best pass blocker in
this class.
7. Trai Turner, G LSU
I value guards more than anyone other than probably New
Orleans and Baltimore. Turner is a high quality player who shows the ability to
not only play in space but pass block in a one on one situation. I think he
should be in the conversation with the top 3 guards and have an early round two
grade on him.
8. Charles Sims, RB West Virginia
Sims has the best hands in this class and shows enough speed
and quickness to get the edge out of the backfield. He is the perfect player
for today’s NFL and reminds me a lot of Arian Foster in his running style with
that beautiful glide. Lacks a bit of power in short yardage but his third down
skills are tremendous. Over 200 catches in his career.
9. Zach Kerr, DT Delaware
Kerr is very under the radar but if he went as high as late
round two I would have no issue with it. While he’s probably going to go
somewhere in the 5th-7th round range he shows elite power
and movement skills and can dominate for long stretches.
10. Kareem Martin, DE North Carolina
I’m not sure why people aren’t higher on this kid. If he
came out last year I would have had a first round grade on him. He can play all
three downs and while he may never be a double digit sack guy consistently, he
can play and play right now at a high level.
