10 picks I loved
1. Randy
Gregory, OLB Dallas - I
understand the kid has off the field issues galore. But the kid is arguably the
best pure pass rusher in this draft class. Dallas was in desperate need of help
off the edge and the kid could be a double digit sack guy in the league, and
those guys don’t fall off trees. With the 60th pick, the risk was
more than worth the selection.
2. Jaelen
Strong, WR Houston – I would have pulled the trigger on Strong at 16th
overall. The kid was the fourth wide receiver on my board and to get him with
the 70th pick in the draft was the epitome of a draft steal. He
could get you 80 catches per season out of the third round.
3. Landon
Collins, SS New York Giants – He was clearly the best player left on the board to
begin day 2 and the Giants made the move to make it happen. The guy is going to
be a really good player in the league, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended
up making 100 tackles a season. High floor pick.
4. Maxx
Williams, TE Baltimore – The team needed weapons for Flacco and they went out
and got an exceptional player in round two. He can block and he is a really
good athlete who catches everything in the passing game. Excellent value from
Ozzie.
5. Lorenzo
Mauldin, OLB New York Jets – The Jets defense is going to be scary good and
they added a versatile athletic guy on the outside. The kid should have gone
20-30 picks earlier and they got a good one with their third round pick.
6. David Johnson
– RB Arizona – He was the third ranked running back on my board as he has
exceptional pass game skills. Adding him to Ellington gives that team a really
nice one-two punch and I think he could end up being a 1000 yard rusher and a
500 yard per season receiver.
7. Eli
Harold – OLB San Francisco – There wasn’t a gigantic need here but you can
never have too many good pass rushers. Harold should have been off the board
way before the 49ers picked him with the 79th pick. The kid was a
borderline first rounder, you just have to pull the trigger when he’s there
40-50 picks later.
8. Tyler
Lockett – WR Seattle – Really good schematic fit who can do a lot of what
Seattle wanted Percy Harvin to do but for a third round rate. He’s a tough
undersized kid who can work the slot but also run that interior seam route.
Plus he’s an elite return man and special teams player.
9. Clive
Warford, TE Oakland – He’s a really good player in both the run and pass game.
Warford can make people move and he’s deadly when you get him in a one on one situation
as a pass catcher. I compared him to a poor man’s Jason Witten. The Raiders
have had a solid first two days.
10. Carl
Davis, DT Baltimore – What do you know Ozzie has another good draft pick. Davis
has some serious and real motor questions, but late in the third round it’s not
a bad risk at all. The kid has borderline first round talent so to get him at
the end of round three is just simply a terrific risk/reward selection.
